Located in the city's exclusive Rajajinagar area, Kessaku by the Phoenix Group is a large residential project featuring uber-luxury apartments, housed in five interconnected buildings. We were approached to create distinctive lobbies for the buildings, each independently connecting to a premium 7,500-square-foot common lounge, the latter catering to all the complex residents.

We commenced with a masterplan to optimise the space for each lobby and that of the lounge area. The theme proposed by the developers was the elements of nature -- earth, wind, fire, water and air. Each lobby was named after an element, which also provided the starting point for its design.

The common lounge area, Midori, is broken up into different sections, albeit in a seamless illusion; we achieved this by cladding each column in mirrors, with a brass scaffolding around their periphery, running from one column to another. Within sit bookshelves and plants, and the transparency of the scaffolding allows for a visual connect, despite it being enclosed. The checkerboard floor uses three different marbles to give it a mosaic feel throughout. The library section features warmer wallpapers as well as leather panelling to give it a cosy feel, while the billiard area has a more masculine, den-like design with large curved wooden flutes.

The lounge is replete with mirror, wood and brass accents overall, the Persian carpets and lounge furniture adding to the laid-back ambience.
