This 4500-square-foot home is spread over three levels of a Mumbai residential building, occupying one half of the seventh, eight and ninth floors. While the master bedroom, two additional bedrooms and a family leisure room are on the lowest level, the next has been converted into a living room and kitchen with terrace, and the top floor is a larger terrace sitting atop both the lower ones.

Given the requirements of the Batra family of four, we commenced by changing the layout completely in order to optimise the space and cater to each individual's requirements. The interiors were planned in a minimal contemporary aesthetic, with white Michelangelo marble flooring running through. A sculpted internal spiral staircase with wooden treads connects the two lower levels.

With a wealth of area to be utilised, particularly when one considers the constraint of the average Mumbai apartment, each bedroom within the home features a walk-in wardrobe and luxuriously large bathroom. The living room was divided into two areas, with a formal seating space to one side and a casual one holding a bar opening onto the smaller terrace. A sliding-folding glass door allows for enclosing the dining section when needed, or opens up to the outdoors as desired. The living room also connects to the larger terrace above, part of which houses a wooden trellis and seating area, as well as a built-in barbeque that extends into a long al fresco dining table seating eight.
