For this limited-edition C-Chair, drawings by artist T. Venkanna were translated into hand-cut marble pieces by master craftsmen from Agra. Inspired by his expressive world view, they reiterate the significance of the body as a motif and symbol of social commentary. These pieces were then inlayed into the seating surface and along the legs of each chair.
The woodwork takes on a cantilevered form; devoid of screws, metal fasteners or power tools, the handcrafted individual segments make use of exquisite traditional joinery in recycled old Burma teak wood, thereby addressing issues of sustainability pertaining to both resources and craftsmen. A complete knockdown construction allows for it to be disassembled with ease, thus facilitating easy transportation and re-assembly.
Each chair displays the studio logo on an inlay of hand-cut brass, as well as the artist's signature along the inner leg.
