The year 2020 saw a resurgence in the popularity of board games due to the global lockdown and consequently, the studio chose to launch its own version of one that originated in India - chess. In doing so, we wished to highlight the craft of woodcarving and distill its finest elements. The chessboard itself is sculpted from dual tones of warm Burma teak and pale oak wood. The surface features inlay work and the onboard pieces are all individually hand-carved; the set also features a drawer underneath for storage purposes.
The initial prototype of the game was 3D-printed and subsequently passed on to our artisans, who recreated it in wood, thus marrying cutting-edge technology and antiquated carving techniques to meet our objective.
